Ingredients:
  • 1 package rapid rise yeast (or 2 ¼ tsp.)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 ½ cups VERY warm water (the hottest tap water you can get)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 4 cups bread flour
Directions:
  1. Mix the yeast, brown sugar, and water in a bowl and let them sit for 5 minutes or so.
  2. Then add 2 cups bread flour and then the salt (so the salt doesn't mix directly with the yeast mixture and kill the yeast).
  3. Then mix in the remainder of the flour a little bit at a time, until the dough is just barely not sticking to your hands.
  4. Knead it for 5 minutes at least by hand (I shoot for 10 minutes because it really does improve the texture but I tend to get bored when I am kneading dough...)
  5. Let it rest for a half hour to an hour (if you use the rapid rise yeast you can use it right away but letting it rest seems to improve the taste a bit).
  6. Then spread it out on a baking sheet.
  7. If I use it for cheesy bread, I spread a thin layer of butter on the top, then sprinkle salt and garlic powder on the top, then sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top of all that.
  8. Preheat the oven to 450 and bake it for about 15 minutes, depends on your oven (so just cook it until the cheese it starting to barely brown).
  9. I also use this same recipe for pizza crust.
  10. This recipe makes quite a bit of cheesy bread (we usually divide it in half and make one pizza and one cheesy bread).
  11. Half the recipe makes plenty of cheesy bread for us (usually some left over!).
